Stanford professor Stephen Quake and colleagues report sequencing a complete genome with one machine and three people at under 50,000 dollars. The advance, published in Nature Biotechnology, signals dramatic drops in cost and time versus the 300 million spent over 13 years by the Human Genome Project, moving toward ubiquitous personal genomics for disease prevention and treatment.
