Taft attacks so called tax cuts as tax rise in disguise
Senator Robert Taft Jr of Ohio assails Congress for delivering inflation eroded tax breaks that lift overall taxes by about 5 billion dollars. He pushes tying exemptions and brackets to the consumer price index to prevent inflation driven tax hikes and criticizes the Humphrey Hawkins plan as wasteful make work spending. Treasury secretary Simon warns the 1976 Democratic platform could boost the federal budget by about 200 billion annually.
