NAMRU2 Mini Forces Battle World's Diseases
NAMRU 2 with 50 U.S. officers and 360 Chinese personnel operates in Taipei on a budget of just over 1 million dollars. They developed a cheap cholera treatment reducing deaths from about 40 percent to under 2 percent and treated 2,000 patients in Saigon in 1964. They work on a trachoma vaccine projected to prevent recurrence of the eye infection, with trials spanning six years.

Hong Kong Leads Global Wigmaking Boom and Trade
Hong Kong has become the world’s top supplier of human hair wigs with exports rising from 1.3 million to about 70 million dollars annually. The United States buys about 75 percent of exports, while Hong Kong battles South Korea on labor costs. By 1968 about 200 factories employed over 15,000 workers, mostly women, despite a 1965 US ban on hair from Communist China and a certificates-of-origin system to ensure non Chinese origin.
