Midview approves pay to play plan to fund activities

The Midview Board of Education unanimously backs a pay to play funding plan to save non academic activities. MECA will raise funds to cover fall sports with an Aug 28 deadline and total program cost of 156000. Individual fees reach 314 for football and about 230 for volleyball wrestling and basketball.

Lorain marina project to begin next month in former AmShip site

Lorain plans a commercial marina at the former American Shipbuilding Co. yard on the Black River with 114 two-boat docks near Dry Dock No. 3 and dry storage for about 1,000 boats. Reagan to undergo urinary tract examination today

President Reagan, recovering from cancer surgery 13 months ago, is to be examined for urinary tract abnormalities. Tests include an intravenous urography and a bladder cystoscopic exam under local anesthesia at Bethesda Naval Medical Center after his radio address.

Islamic Jihad rejects Waite appeals in Beirut

In Beirut the Islamic Jihad group rejected Anglican envoy Terry Waite s bid to restart hostage negotiations. The statement, though not naming Waite, responded to his appeals this week and said a letter from the American hostages would be released soon. Waite had met with the kidnappers during prior Beirut visits.

Attorney Dempsey vanishes before trial on sex counts

Lakewood police say they could not prevent attorney Jerry Dempsey from disappearing prior to his trial on 49 felony sex counts involving juveniles. Dempsey, free on 25000 bond, allegedly supplied alcohol and prostitutes to about 20 youths at his Lakewood condo. FBI joined the hunt after a federal flight warrant issued.
