Engineer Explains How Lightning Hazard Can Be Cut
An Elyrian audience heard electrical engineer Mollinger describe Franklin era principles to prevent lightning damage. He explained high masonry impedance and ground faults raise strike risks, and that proper grounded shielding with rods can dissipate nearly all discharges. He cited field data, estimating region weather yields about 1% strokes per square mile yearly, and that four 15 foot masts could dramatically cut risk, while noting various rod arrangements offer strong protection.
