Two young bandits halted Francis Minigan and John Wadsworth as they moved a payroll to workers on the Ohio Bell building project in Dayton. They escaped with funds reported between 13,088 and 16,000 dollars after stopping the vehicle at a street crossing.
In Pottsville Pennsylvania a rock fall at the Gilbert mine of the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company killed seven workers and injured sixteen others. A crew of 23 were laying new rails 1900 feet underground preparing to reopen the mine when top rock and ceiling timbers collapsed. Miners from nearby pits rushed to help. the first entombed man was reached an hour after the accident.

Appel was seized, bound and later freed by burning cords. Sheriff J J Francis recovered the Ford as police search the area. Schultz died en route to hospital. his business had been recently purchased by Schultz and partner Elmer Cornwell.

In Portsmouth Ohio, early today an auto crash at the Seioto river bridge killed 18 year old Harry Schirrman and 19 year old Budd Hefner. William Wertz, son of Charles W Wertz, was seriously injured as their car struck the bridge abutment while returning from a canoe trip. Schirrman was nephew of a well known physician. The car fell into the river after the impact.
Marines from President Hoover's Rapidan camp joined regional fire wardens to battle a forest blaze on a mountain ridge about seven miles from the presidential retreat at Orange Virginia. Counter fires were set to stop the main fire in Pine Grove Hollow. The fire was the fifth large blaze in the area this month, with two smaller fires burning on the camp’s opposite side.

A young woman robbed Tony Spennilla, proprietor of a Lodi street fruit store, shortly after noon on Saturday. She ordered fruit then demanded the cash from the register, saying there were only a few dollars left for the evening. She fled toward West River Street, and police received her description.
