Iselle and Julio Threaten Hawaii With Back-To-Back Hurricanes
Iselle weaker but still a hurricane approached Hawaii with rain and winds as it neared landfall on the Big Island. Julio followed, strengthening to Category 3 and projected to pass north of the state. Authorities urged precautions as shelters opened, power outages occurred, flights were canceled, and officials prepared for the two storms while noting past direct hits were rare.
