Wheat acreage debate shadows wheat and bread prices
Washington reports dwindling meat supplies and a rush to gauge wheat stocks and price impacts. The Agriculture Department notes July reserves at 536 million bushels, the smallest since 1952, with Freeman weighing another acreage increase, a move that may ease bread prices but worry farmers before November elections. A separate bill advances in the House to expand school lunch and milk programs, proposing 3.545 million dollars in new funding over four years for child nutrition.
