Interstate 480 plans bring good and bad for North Olmsted

An environmental impact statement from the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration and Ohio Department of Transportation outlines 14 reasons the highway should be built and notes that parts of North Olmsted would experience worsened traffic and poorer air quality. Highway Construction Prompts Economic and Land Use Benefits

Road cuts and interchanges planned for Lorain County area

North Olmsted Fairview Park and surrounding areas will convert several streets into cul de sacs to reduce through traffic. Interchanges planned with I 480 and major roads including the Ohio Turnpike and Route 20 relocation will reshape access. The first four I 480 sections in Lorain and Cuyahoga counties total about 1.85 miles to link with the Turnpike near Exit 9, costing roughly 7.26 million dollars, then 10 million, and 22 million for subsequent segments.

James R Barker ore carrier christened in Cleveland

The James R Barker, a 1000 foot Great Lakes ore carrier built for Pickands Mather, will be christened in Cleveland at 9 am. The vessel, largest fully built on the lakes, will haul 59,000 tons of taconite to Indiana Harbor for Youngstown Sheet and Tube.
