Prof Everhart demonstrates that fine grinding of fire clay reduces lamination and carbon-rich layers that cause swelling between 2100 and 2500 degrees Fahrenheit. By breaking these layers, the brick shrinkage becomes more uniform and reduces defects, improving the quality of refractory bricks used by Olfo and other states.
