Dr Shumaker received a ten day sentence in the state prison for contempt of court. he was fined 250 dollars and reprimanded for criticizing the court. The arrest motion delayed the final sentence and a bond pending hearing was set with plans for later sentencing.
A strong earthquake struck Tokyo and northern Japan today at 6 1 a m local time. Buildings swayed and residents rushed from offices and homes as tremors interrupted services and caused temporary outages. Authorities reported no immediate major damage or injuries.
Washington August 6 many cabinet leaders are away from the Capitol with Antiesistant secretary of state heading the Western European division at the State Department. Robert J. Old leaves the capital for Manchester to meet the president as the cabinet dispersed for the Geneva arms talks.

DAYTON O Aug 6 Physicians believe George L Updyke will live despite both legs being severed below the knees in an odd accident. En route to visit his mother at Carlile Updyke was struck by a passing train and the limb loss occurred as a passenger train severed his legs. He survived surgery and rallied enough to tell his mother what happened.
Commissioner Warren orders all police on duty after two blasts hit the 28th Street stations of the Interborough and Brooklyn-Manhattan transit systems in Midtown Manhattan. Ten minutes apart, ten to twelve people hospitalized, two serious. Suspect group believed extremists linked to Sacco and Vanzetti case. Continues on page 2.
William Cameron and Frank Miller of Cleveland face grand jury counts after being bound over on charges of stealing a gun and pointing a weapon. They allegedly attempted to steal fowls from Forest View farm. Miller allegedly pointed the gun at a Sister Superior who then alerted authorities. Both pleaded not guilty at arraignment. Cameron claimed mistaken identity.
