Extension agent Harold Spence notes anticipated two percent wheat loss, while Ralph Malik cites oats and wheat yields cut to about one half. Some farmers may lose only in a narrow area as most local wheat already harvested. Elevator owner S. J. Davidson says quality remains generally high with 63 pounds test weight.

Senator pledges ban support at county Democratic picnic
Senator Stephen M. Young addressed the Lorain County Democratic Club picnic pledging limited nuclear test ban support though not full backing. He described the treaty as plain language and urged continued underground testing within the agreement. He warned that any treaty withdrawal could occur if signers are released by other parties and that atmosphere tests by Red China or France could provoke withdrawal. He spoke at Lincoln Park and noted about 5,000 attended off and on. He also discussed possible second-term plans and civil rights march views, urging dialogue without disruptive sit-ins.
