Athletics For Boys Program Drives Local youth Sports

Elyria hosts a dual effort by the Booster Club and the Elks Club to develop grade school athletics. The Booster Club, formed in 1944, funded football uniforms and gear, basketballs, medals, ribbons, T shirts, and the annual football night at Ely Stadium. The Elks promote Class F baseball, expanding to ten teams in 1945 but constrained by only two diamonds. They seek more fields and a medical fund to cover injuries, while stressing the value of sports in keeping boys away from mischief.
