World War I veteran Charles McGinty long road to recovery ends in auto life change. Wounded and gas inhalation in Belgium, he traveled 160000 miles in three Chandler cars, making trans continental trips from Pacific to Ohio and sleeping in the open. Former Mansfield resident, later in Hermosa Beach, he served as Acting Master Signal Electrician with the 12th Signal Battalion front line units. On October 21 1918 he was wounded by shrapnel and chlorine gas but returned to duty after light treatment.
