Vermilion gets state dredging grant to deepen harbor by fall

Vermilion will deepen shallow spots in the Vermilion River and harbor with a $506,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. City officials expect dredging to be completed by fall after delays and permit processing. The harbor serves the largest recreational boating fleet on the Great Lakes and has seen increased emergency calls and a yacht getting stuck recently. Local marinas helped cover about $50,000 for private dredging to aid boat traffic.
