North Ridgeville residents rejected a 4.9 mill 3.5 million emergency school levy 2 606 to 1 856 in unofficial Lorain County results. Supporters blamed the weak economy noting the May defeat was similar. A home valued at 100 000 would face 150 more per year under the levy.
Sheffield Lake police responded to a report of a man screaming on Howell Avenue. Capt. Tony Campo described the subject as paranoid and delusional, combative after using a designer drug sold online and at head shops as bath salts, which remain legal in Ohio.
Lorain Mayor Tony Krasienko asked the state Auditor's Office to investigate city auditor Ronald Mantini over alleged document tampering tied to repair payments. Mantini says he supplied requested documents after accusations at a July 18 City Council meeting.
Sheffield Township signs a six month pilot with Lorain County Sheriff to fund off duty deputies for 32 hours monthly at up to 26.60 per hour. The plan, starting Aug 15, costs up to 1300 monthly from the township general fund with 50 percent of citation revenue offsetting costs. Deputies will handle routine patrols targeted enforcement and event security while crime and response times are tracked.
