When Will the Rain End in Lorain County
The question of the week asks when the rain will stop as Lorain County endures the wettest July on record. The Ag Center notes nearly nine inches in July with some areas reporting over 12 inches, soil moisture stress on crops, wheat and straw harvest hampered by wet soil, corn thriving but vulnerable to continued rain, and soybeans turning yellow with disease risk. Disaster cleanup projects are underway in Amherst and Mill Hollow for tornado debris removal and channel restoration, with further work in LaGrange and Grafton awaiting federal funding approval. Flood insurance guidance is provided by the Lorain County Planning Commission, noting policy requirements and flood zone considerations.
