Automation promises better education at Lorain County College

Lorain County Community College researches automation as the path to dramatic learning gains. Director Dr Herbert Humbert says within five years tests won't measure student progress and a decade hence the center aims to reduce test reliance while building an expansive automated learning system. The campus has invested heavily in automated tools, including audio programs, slides, films, and computer data sheets, creating a potential display for visitors and scholars.

Luxaire Union Strike Talks Planned at Americana Inn

Luxaire Inc management and United Steel Workers Local 6985 bargainers scheduled a 10 a.m. meeting at the Americana Inn. Union president Harold A. Smith and district representative Joseph J. Pavlich said talks could be brief if gaps remain. The strike halted production for a day, idling about 370 workers with pickets outside the Filbert Street plant.

Hurricane Celia Threatens Texas Coast Near Corpus Christi

Williamson Named to Lorain Regional Airport Authority

Robert H Williamson, president of Elvira Coca Cola Bottling and Will Enterprises, was unanimously appointed by Lorain County commissioners to the Regional Airport Authority. He fills the unexpired term of Robert Harding who resigned June 2. Williamson, of 9201 Miami Ave, Elixma, chaired the airport formation group from 1954 to 1964 and serves as chair of the Lorain County Airport Zoning Commission.

Rhodes orders state probe into Kent State disorders

Gov. James A. Rhodes directed Ohio Attorney General Paul W Brown to convene a Portage County grand jury to investigate the Kent State University disturbances last May that left four students dead. The James Madison submarine test fired the Poseidon multi warhead missile 30 miles east of Cape Kennedy. A Russian spy ship observed from 3,000 yards, then steamed toward debris packing ejected from the submarine during launch. No immediate word on debris snag success.

Lorain Man Samuel Desich Appointed To LCCC Board

Lorain stockbroker Richard Desich was named to the Lorain County Community College board of trustees to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Donald M. Love. The appointment runs to Jan. 23, 1972 after a 2-1 vote by county commissioners with LM Pincura dissenting. Desich is manager of the Lorain office of Hartzmark & Co. Inc and active in local groups including the Lorain City Club Kiwanis Elks Knights of Pythias YMCA Health Club Oberlin Golf Club and the Ohio State University Association.
