Pomeroy Outlines Forest Conservation Plan
Pomeroy describes a timber approach that favors selective cutting and regeneration. Trees are marked and spacing adjusted to foster faster growth, with larger trees left standing for future crops. The plan aims to cut six percent of inferior trees every five years to restore the forest in about eight years and reduce fire hazards through education and controlled grazing. Officials support a ten year shutdown if needed to implement the system.
