Avon Lake officials said the single building housing two boilers was removed safely as part of a broader demolition plan amid resident concerns and council debates.

West Ridge house nearly struck again in Lorain County
West Ridge Road near state Route 113 saw a 2011 Kia Optima go off the road just after midnight, hit an embankment and clip a utility pole before stopping 15 feet from a West Ridge Road home. Driver Melanie Candelario of Lorain, 27, was hospitalized with serious injuries. The crash follows a similar June 7 incident at the same property.
