Juan Gonzalez missed a game with a strained hamstring while Ellis Burks nears activation from the DL. Kenny Lofton vows a breakout in crunch time as the pennant race tightens. Omar Vizquel revived at the plate, lifting his average during a hot stretch.

Westbrook struggles as Indians fall to A's in blowout
Indians starter Jake Westbrook endured a disastrous 2 13 inning outing allowing eight runs in the third inning as Oakland's Cory Lidle blanks Cleveland through eight. A costly error by Einar Diaz on Jason Giambi's grounder and a rough collision between Alomar and Cabrera compounded the loss. Jim Thome adds RBI punch with 39th of July. Westbrook (3-3, 5.40) battled, but this setback follows four straight starts with at least four runs allowed. Manuel called Westbrook a promising pitcher needing experience as the team seeks better results.
