United Nations forces widened a siege around Seoul as Chinese Communist troops reinforced and prepared for a possible May Day assault. UN tanks infantry and planes struck back from the 30 mile defense arc while reports noted heavy traffic of Communist trucks and scattered combat along the front.
Secretary of State Dean Acheson told the U S Chamber of Commerce that the United States will meet and repel the enemy in Korea but avoid committing major forces in a broader war with Soviet satellites. He warned the fighting could spread or be ended, with Kremlin responsibility for escalation.

Three Oberlin residents sustained injuries in a crash at 4 50 a m yesterday when one car struck another and then hit a culvert. Injured were James Johnson Jr 23 of 164 Groveland street driver with facial and knee lacerations Robert Isom 22 of 167 South Pleasant street passenger with head lacerations and shock and Minnie Isom 21 with facial lacerations and shock.
President Truman asked Congress to approve 40.5 billion dollars in military spending for the 1952 fiscal year starting July 1 to sustain a rapid global build up. The plan calls for 61.1 billion in new appropriations with about 20.6 billion deferred to later years, aiming to deter a potential World War III.

Oberlin emeritus history professor and author David Richard Moore died Saturday at Hawne Rest Home. Born in Port Hope Ontario he graduated from Morel School for Teachers in Port Hope in 1929 and earned a PhD from the University of Chicago in 1938. He began teaching at Washington Jefferson Academy in Washington Pa in 1912 and later lectured at the Central Institute of Chicago until 1909.
More than 300 people attended the 35th anniversary banquet of the Magyar Evangelical and Reformed Church at Roosevelt School auditorium. Thirteen new members were received after two anniversary worship services. Rev. Louis G. Novak gave greetings as jamboree scouts presented colors. Notables included Dr. Stephen Szabo and Rev. Michael Toth among special guests, with delegates from nearby cities.
Three Elyria men attached to Company B 122nd Armored Penances Battalion were injured in an auto crash eight and a half miles north of Ashland on Route 58. Driver Carl C Hobert 23 sustained knee chest injuries and facial lacerations, Paul Qiah and St Marie suffered possible skull fracture and facial injuries. All three were in Samaritan Hospital Ashland. St Marie may be transferred for military treatment. A fourth passenger was unharmed.
