New Tariff Bill Near Completion
Washington April 30 The administration's new tariff bill was completed tentatively by Republican members of the house Ways and Means committee. A full committee meeting was called for Thursday to report out the measure with contingency, while Hawley was expected to introduce the bill in the house late this week. A Republican caucus will settle controversial matters including rates on sugar hides and cement after introduction. Democrats will see the bill at the intro and a minority attitude meeting will follow. Drafters said more rates were changed than hearings suggested, but the bill is a readjustment of the Fordney McCumber act, mainly modifying agricultural schedules.
