Amherst Bridge Project Delays Draw Scrutiny and Costs

City officials continued debate over the bridge project with council member Litkovitz noting misaligned pylons and Higgins seeking engineering peer review. The city set aside 50 thousand dollars for extra expenses, has paid 22,685 to HNTB and 8,000 for Brunkhorst’s review. Brunkhorst’s survey was finished April 18 and will be delivered to the law department. Bender tore down the old bridge later than contracted, delaying completion from June 1, 2001 to September 2002, risking about 238 thousand in penalties. Bender seeks payment for completed work, claiming city approval.
