South Amherst lands Summer Youth Works project
Lorain County Commissioners select South Amherst for a federally funded Summer Youth Works program. Elyria youths will be assigned to the village for roughly three months earning wages, with hours scaled by age. Applications go to the Job Development Department at 226 Middle Ave. Local plans include tree planting, Cemetery upkeep, and road edging. The village approves funds and a workmen’s compensation coverage for auxiliary police, and sets a public hearing for cemetery property annexation. Regional Planning backs a Central Park project on North Lake Street with school fields and quarry land, plus future neighborhood parks. Rubbish pickup dates are moved to May, and the Amherst dump remains open to residents.
