Publishers Push Source Protection in ANPA Convention
At the ANPA convention in New York publishers pressed for strong federal shield legislation to protect confidential news sources. They cited the Supreme Court ruling ending a general First Amendment privilege and noted 22 states already have some statutes, with Cranston Kennedy’s bill seen as the strongest option to cover federal and state courts. The Caldwell bill, tied to Earl Caldwell’s case, is also debated.
