Viewpoint of the Firemen on pension and service rules
Fire Department members, many with over a decade of service, argue current rules favor the city and breach contracts. They advocate a new act for length of service, oppose longer retirement terms, and cite hazards, insurance costs, and fairness as reasons to maintain or adjust benefits without disadvantaging long-serving personnel.

Pension fears drive council debate on firemen age limit
Councilmen discuss a proposed 21 year service requirement for firemen and its impact on staffing and pensions. They warn longer service could strain the city budget, deplete force levels, and shift pension costs beyond revenue. They compare to corporate pension practices and call for a fair, simple system under workers compensation style rules.

What the Chamber Says About City Pensions for Firemen and Police
The C F Group notes pensions must be funded from city revenues and warns larger pension awards will raise costs. It argues liberal pensions deter retirement delays but cautions the council must assume maximum cost scenarios since pension boards set rates and the city must pay.
