Genealogy site used to aid Golden State Killer probe
Sacramento authorities tied the Golden State Killer case to GEDmatch after investigators matched crime scene DNA to a distant relative in the site’s database. Co founder Curtis Rogers said the tool was used without the site’s knowledge prompting privacy concerns from civil liberties groups and experts. The public has limited privacy protections in this area and many say ordinary people can aid police with genealogy data.
