First Americans may be Neanderthals in California find
A Nature paper argues a Southern California site around 130000 years old shows mastodon bones and stones smashed as hammers and anvils, suggesting non Homo sapiens visitors possibly Neanderthals Denisovans or Homo erectus. No human remains found, origin and route unclear. Skeptics urge caution until further evidence.
