A blaze at 309 Briar Lake Road in Elyria burned for nearly three hours beginning around 1:40 a.m. The living room was engulfed and the fire source could not be located at first. The incident caused about 175000 dollars in damage. a woman and her two children escaped with the husband away at work.
A Tuesday night fire at 2206 Grafton Road in Carlisle Township spread from a fireplace into walls and two second floor bedrooms. Firefighters from four departments spent about an hour extinguishing it with no injuries. Rene and Linda Truxall, the homeowners, are staying with a neighbor. The blaze remains under investigation.
Imam Paul Hassa, 61, pleaded guilty in Lorain County Common Pleas Court to non support of dependents and two counts of attempted non support, admitting failure to pay 24 673 dollars for his three children from a 2001 divorce to Terry Hasan. He faces up to two years in jail when sentencing later this year.
Thomas Nicoloff, 39, pleaded not guilty at Lorain Municipal Court after two separate drunk driving stops on April 4 and 5. Avon Lake resident Faye Warren, 58, facing eight counts of aggravated arson after allegedly attempting to set fires at her Woodstock Avenue home in February and March, plus a 2008 incident. Prosecutor Dennis Will noted fires prompted firefighter suspicions. no injuries reported beyond Warren’s smoke inhalation once.
