Vern Fuller leaves major league baseball for hotel work
In September 1970 Vern Fuller, 26, walked away after six MLB seasons with the Cleveland Indians to pursue steadier work. He later joined Vernon Stouffer’s hotel chain, managing properties and helping open a Holiday Inn in Westlake. Fuller recalls the Indians’ youth push and his mixed feelings about the game’s atmosphere and salaries. He remains enthusiastic about his hotel career and still plays in oldtimers events.
