Oberlin repaving on East College delayed to next summer
Oberlin delays repaving East College Street as ODOT review pushes plans past this year. The 1.2 mile stretch from East Lorain to Prospect will need redesign for higher traffic, raising cost from 550000 to 885000 and city share from 250000 to 300000 350000. A temporary stone and tar surface will cover worst sections. Bid opening is now scheduled for February 1987. Separated sewer work will be postponed to avoid multiple street disruptions.

Wellington school board named in injury lawsuit
A 12 year old Wellington girl and her mother sue the Wellington Exempted Village School Board and others in Lorain County Common Pleas Court for 1 million dollars claiming a classmate’s rubber band gun caused permanent eye damage at McCormick Middle School last April 26. The suit names parents Sharon Howard Tremayne and Jerome Goodson Oberlin as defendants along with Principal Thomas Gebhart and Teacher Carel M Zeller for alleged negligence in supervision and discipline. The case is assigned to Judge Floyd D Harris.

Blame on lighter sparks Elyria duplex fire
A four year old playing with a cigarette lighter caused a West Way Gardens duplex fire at 1120 Melvyn Lane in Elyria. Blaine Beatty rents the unit, six to eight crews battled the blaze for about 40 minutes, with the second floor heavily damaged and $20 000 in losses reported. No injuries were reported.
