$2 Million Suit Over Marshfield Lake Hearing Scheduled
Westlake residents and Westlake Improvement Co attorneys prepare for a two year dispute over Marshfield Lake. Residents seek about 2 million in damages for property devaluation and loss of recreational value while the company is charged with failing to maintain the dam that drained the lake. A pre trial hearing could yield a resolution or push the case toward trial, delaying final decision for years.

Lorain U.S. Steel to furlough 200 to 300 workers
Lorain Works of U S Steel plans to lay off about 200 to 300 workers for five weeks ending in October, adding to an initial 50 furloughs. General Superintendent E L Smith says orders are down due to auto industry weakness, with further reductions possible in the blast furnaces and primary mills if demand remains low. The Cuyahoga Works may also see reduced activity, while no summer replacements will be hired to offset permanent layoffs.
