Warden cites radicals as cause of penology upheaval
Columbus April 26 The penitentiary fire probe resumes at 2:30 p m Saturday in the attorney general’s office as Assistant Attorney General Shirley said. Warden P E Thomas linked unrest among anarchists to prison problems noting about 100 of 4000 inmates are anarchists and some propaganda may have circulated inside the prison. He warned that within ten years every prison may be patrolled by armed troops and said most inmates are model. About 322 convicts died or suffocated in the fire Monday night, while conditions at the prison were returning to normal. A guard repudiated earlier testimony about a door being closed, and reports of knives and guns on dead convicts could not be confirmed. The death toll rose to 322 with the pneumonia death of James Andrews from Ross County serving 10 to 20 years.

Cascade Park will officially open its 1930 season on Thursday May 1 1930 chairman Frank Wilford said. If the water is not too high at the fords the auto trail will be opened then. Park equipment has been repaired repainted and the baseball diamond backstop refurbished for the season. Navy ores will be put in use in early weeks and tennis courts may receive a clay covering. Ex Engineer of Rum Boat Gets Pen Sentence
Frank Smith former engineer on the Sambo G a rum running boat was sentenced to 15 months in the Atlanta federal penitentiary after pleading guilty to conspiracy to violate prohibition laws. Smith gave the name Joe Call at arraignment and claimed Glenheim Ontario as home. The Sambo G was seized with 500 cases of whiskey and 1000 cases of beer after a March 7 Coast Guard pursuit. captain Fred Heathe was wounded and escaped from Lorain hospital. Other defendants faced arraignments with some pleading guilty and others not guilty. Harold Sothern pleads not guilty to embezzling $120000 from Guardian Trust Cleveland and is held on $17569 bond.

Air Mail Pilot Survives Crash After 2090 Foot Jump
Air Mail Pilot Henry J. Brown, winner of the Los Angeles to Cleveland non stop derby, leaped 2090 feet from a crippled Boeing monoplane and landed safely in the Clearfield Pennsylvania mountains. The plane plunged and burned within 106 feet of his arrival. Brown, burned on the hands, tried to salvage $18000 in mail from the wreckage while the craft, powered by a Wright Whirlwind engine, burned at the scene.
