Virginia Tech shadows and campus healing echoed by past shootings
The piece contrasts Virginia Tech with UT and Kent State, noting the long shadow of campus mass shootings. It recalls UT’s 1966 attack, Kent State’s 1970 killings, and how campuses memorialize, move on, or resist transforming into sanctuaries of tragedy. It quotes university officials and historians on healing, memory, and the risk of defining a university by violence.
