Governor helps break ground for new prison
Governor George Voinovich spoke at the Toledo groundbreaking for the 65 million Toledo Correctional Institution set to open in 1999. The project will create about 400 jobs with a payroll above 16 million and include a 1000 bed close security unit plus a 168 bed minimum security camp. Local officials cited economic and cleanup benefits for a blighted Goose Hill area, while unions protested related wage issues tied to a broader workers compensation bill.
