Elyria will begin its spring clean-up Monday announced by the Service Director. Residents may place any items for pickup. the three week schedule covers districts east of the river first, then the area between river branches, and finally west of the river.
In Columbus on April 25 Governor White signed four additional measures. The Kaker Lorbach Bill grants exclusive juvenile court jurisdiction in all cases involving defendants under 18, effective in 90 days, spurred by a youth accused of murder during a holdup. Other acts include a safety measure on state funds deposits at market value, a restriction on corrosive acid sales, and a prohibition on paying bus fares with canceled tickets. Two laws also took effect after lapse of time.
Dr. P. B. Fitzwater, dean of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, will speak at the First Baptist church evening service tomorrow. Moody Institute, founded by Dwight L. Moody, has over three thousand students and many graduates serve in pulpits and missions nationwide and abroad.
Forecast notes rain tonight in Ohio and cooler conditions in the western areas Sunday. Yesterday’s highs included Phoenix 78 Paso 78 and Miami 76. A general but slight rise in temperatures is noted across states while the storm center moves east toward Texas and Oklahoma and likely toward the lake region, bringing continued cloudy and showery weather in the next 24 hours.
Columbus April 25 Two former Belmont county sheriffs owe the county more than 32000 for feeding prisoners in the county jail. Clyde C. Hardesty 16980 84 and Jord Moore 16952 45 were found by State Auditor Joseph Tracy and State Examiner John Whitner to owe funds to the county treasury. Findings also named H H Harris Mrs H H Morris and J C Harris for 26462 57 in illegal highway contract payments based on falsified warrants and fraudulent bills.
CINCINNATI April 25 Garry Herrmann a renowned Major League baseball executive and former president of the Cincinnati Reds died today at his son in law Karl B Finke's home He would have been 72 He joined the Reds in 1903 helped found the National League Baseball Commission and later chaired it He was a key Republican leader alongside Cox and Hynicka and held various civic roles in Cincinnati.
Mrs. Ethel Agate was appointed public health nurse for Elyria, effective May 1, succeeding Miss Pauline Alten since January 1. Reports show 243 nurse visits and five clinics with 35 patients, including prenatal and infant welfare cases, tuberculosis work, and 261 lab tests. Food and dairy inspections covered meat markets, groceries, restaurants, milk plants, and bake shops with numerous site visits.
The seventeenth annual meeting of the Ohio Hospital Association will be held at Wade Park Manor in Cleveland on April 28 and 29. Elyria Memorial Hospital’s Frank W. Hoover, president, and R B Lersch, vice president, will likely appear with Lersch speaking on the trustee viewpoint. Former Elyria superintendent J R Mannix serves as executive secretary.
A major fire in Lenox Massachusetts today wiped out the Aspinwall hotel a 400 room structure and damaged several cottages and surrounding woods. Firefighters from Lenox Pittsfield Lee and Stockbridge fought the blaze through the night with no reported deaths or injuries. Estimated damage reached 1 million dollars as flames threatened to consume the resort in the Berkshire Hills near the state line.
Elisha Lee vice president of the Pennsylvania Railroad told the Ohio Chamber of Commerce meeting in Columbus that railways will lead in highway and air transport. He urged removal of anti rust laws to coordinate rail, water and highway networks and called for Ohio to raise railroad taxes from 4 percent to align with other utilities. Governor White urged industry and government to solve worker security during downturns. Lee warned about the grade crossing menace, noting $30 million yearly spent without boosting earnings. In Alliance, Ohio, Stanley Cassidy, 32, was jailed in the fatal shooting of Chauncey Bates, 45, near MinerVa on the Lincoln Highway. Cassidy confessed but gave no motive.

Report from Cleveland says Stribling seeks Elyria as training camp for world heavyweight contender Young Stribling before the July 2 title bout with Max Schmeling. A Monday meeting with local officials will decide, with Ely Stadium facilities, proximity to Cleveland, and La Porte airfield cited as key. If chosen, training likely starts June 1 and daily crowds of about 3500 will gather, with Europe and America coverage planned.

Robert McWilliams and William Connolly compete in Shakespearean reading, while John Eckler enters extempore speaking. Coach Nina Baker reports unusually strong contest performances and aims for a second straight Shakespearean reading title following last year’s win by Robert and Francelia McWilliams.
Secretary of the Navy Adams has referred to the State Department a letter from Major General Smedley D Butler asking how the government will respond to assertions about his World War II era Haiti record. The statements were attributed to Haitian Minister Danial Bellegarde in a newspaper interview alleging Fort Riviera did not exist.
Washington April 25 President Hoover issued an executive order to amend the Civil Service law to grant greater preference to disabled veterans. The action follows a commission Hoover appointed to study the matter and reported on the situation.
County commissioners announce bids for improving the two southeasterly rooms on the third floor of the courthouse. Bids must be posted by May 8. Planned changes include moving the sanitary engineer's office to the third floor from the basement and relocating the automobile license department from the seventh floor of the Lorain County Bank building to the courthouse.

Police raided hangouts in St. Louis as detectives hunt for clues to the missing physician Dr. Isaac D. Kelley. Authorities suspect kidnapping for ransom by a Midwest gang linked to several abductions. Mrs. Kelley, oil heiress, stands ready to pay a large sum for his safe return.
Yesterday J B Heatherly from Akron planned a bootleg venture in Amherst. He was arrested and fined five hundred dollars, jailed for nonpayment. A strap broke in his bunk causing a fall. he was sent to hospital for x rays and treatment.
Firemen say a burning cigarette flipped into the awning of the American Restaurant Building at 247 Broad Street caused a minor blaze last night. The fire was confined to the awning, burning two small holes. Alarm was answered by Horse Company Number One and Engine Company Number Nine.
Three bandits smashed Herbert's Harlem jewelry store window during the theater hour, cutting a circle in glass and hurling a brick to break in. They looted two trays of diamond rings worth 50 000, a 13 carat diamond pendant, 120 more diamonds, 33 emeralds, and several watches, then escaped as hundreds watched.
