Charles F Murphy Tammany Hall figure killed after five bandits raid City National Bank in Granite City Illinois. They seize a messenger’s satchel containing sixty three thousand dollars and fire on bank officials before fleeing in an automobile. Cashier wounded as shots puncture the bank foyer.
Yuki Kato recalls being married to George D. Morgan nephew of J. Serpent Morgan. Now widowed in a foreign land she faces a court filing in New York over her late husband estate. The estate may not cover the provision she was promised.
Bandits in Jit Michigan robbed two locations of about 2100 dollars in Interstate Plastering funds. No injuries reported and investigation underway. Local authorities seek leads on suspects and vehicle details.
A business meeting led by F. J. Nichols of the National Cash Register Co. highlighted key sales service principles. He cited a 11 to 29 percent first year gain and a half billion dollars in deposits as evidence that service drives profits.
In Dubuque Iowa a Detroit entry from the Detroit aviation society was forced down about five miles from the city by a severe electrical storm during the national balloon race. Gray landed at St Ansgar Iowa after a 975 mile flight from San Antonio in army balloon number 1. The Navy’s US 8 14 and another army entrant were sighted near Gardner Kansas with additional sightings reported from Orick Missouri as the race continued.

In Judge Webber's court Mrs. Mary E. Jones of Lorain must return to Roman P. Meyers the $500 cash payment made in a real estate deal. The trial took over two days and was bitterly contested. CO transfers $13,000 as county commissioners seek court consent to move funds from building to bridge fund already leaving about $3,000 in the building fund.
An appeal circulated in Ohio opposes former Attorney General Harry M. Daugherty and backs State Senator George H. Bender as a Johnson faction delegate. More than 1,000 voters signed the appeal asserting Coolidge’s nomination is settled and Ohio will cast its votes for him at the Cleveland convention. Senator Hiram Johnson planned a noon talk at the City Club in Cleveland with a Toledo appearance scheduled for later.
M. M. Braman, president of the Savings Deposit Banking and Trust company of Elyria, was elected president of the Lorain County Bankers association at a banquet at Hotel Antlers in Lorain. He succeeds Harry Nicholl of the Lorain Bank of Commerce. Other officers elected were A G Menz, Amherst Savings and Banking Company, vice president, and Dan V Johnson, Well ington, secretary and treasurer. Over 160 Lorain county bank employees attended. Talks were given by Clay Herrick, M R Dickey, and Edwin Baxter of Cleveland Trust.
William H. Smith aged 82 dies at his home 335 Columbus street yesterday at 5 30 pm He lived in Elyria thirty years and is survived by two daughters and three sons Funeral services are set for Sunday at 2 00 pm at the Second Methodist church with Rev Noell officiating burial will follow at Ridgelawn cemetery

April 25. Statistician C. J. West reports eggs sold for 18 to 20 cents per dozen, three cents less than a year ago. Wheat is 25 cents below last year’s price. Livestock prices rise modestly but remain below April 1923 levels. Hay to farmers runs about 75 percent higher, milk prices down nearly ten cents per hundred pounds in the past month and about 15 cents lower than a year ago.
Governor Donahey endorses the Veterans of Foreign Wars program to sell "Buddy Poppies" in a letter to state commander Francis J. Cook. Proceeds go to Memorial Day works to aid disabled veterans of the organization.
