Young messenger Byrnes charged in $100000 theft plot
Maurice Byrnes a sixteen year old messenger for a brokerage admits to disposed valuables valued at about $100,000. He threw cash, securities and checks into the river while the firm learned the thefts were not delivered. He remains in custody on heavy bail awaiting further investigation and trial. Oberlin Chemistry History Spurred by Prof Jewett
April 25 Oberlin Physical Science club met in Severance chemical laboratory. Prof Emeritus F F Jewett shared a history of Oberlin College chemistry from 1832 to 1912. He joined Oberlin in 1880 from the Imperial University of Tokio where he taught chemistry. Jewett trained at Yale under Prof Benjamin Silliman, graduating in 1876.
