The Tribe defeated the White Sox 14 to 6 on Tuesday. Chicago bounced back Wednesday with a 14 to 7 win amid miscues by Cleveland. Frank Thomas hit a two run homer.
Elyria officials said a substantial fine and penalties were imposed on Nylonge Corp for dumping carbon disulfide into the city sanitary sewers. Lorain police say 20 year old Jeffery Geiger died from a single heart wound after a confrontation with Raymond L. Smith 21 who is charged with murder. Smith is jailed as investigators note a prior daytime argument between the men with no formal report.
Stoneco Inc officials say the asphalt plant will run 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday as they restart operations in Lorain. They will appeal a recent Ohio EPA permit denial after months of resident odor complaints. A hearing could delay a fall plant closure. The company has 42 million in government contracts for this summer. Stoneco will switch raw materials from slag to limestone to cut odors.
