Inaction Halts Lorain City Development Department
Lorain plans to lay off three of ten city planners as council stalls a proposed department reorganization. Community Development Director Frank Mason says no new programs will start until money is traced and the department is reorganized. Mason cites a $662,521 salary plan for 30 workers, versus $704,650 now. He criticizes a stalled zoning update contract with Masure and Syrakis and notes a $1,500 shortfall in a $75,000 zoning line item. Council debates in-house vs outside work. Mason says the jobs may be lost regardless. The housing rehabilitation program resumes after HUD guidance and $40,000 in defects must be fixed.
