The Makah of Neah Bay Washington form tribal songs around the whale their main food prior to white contact Miss Frances Densmore recorded these themes for the Smithsonian The Makahs honor the elk and hold animal and rock beings as former humans Densmore collected songs phonograph records and medicinal plant specimens during her summer study with the Makah people.
