Sugar rationing to be overseen by two county boards

County officials announced the appointment of two sugar rationing boards to replace four and outlined registration procedures for dealers. Registration will be held April 28–29 from 3 to 10 pm at county high schools, with Elyria and Lorain as board locations. Police seek missing 16 year old John Pawinski, last seen April 20.

Clerk of Courts HM. EL Agate reported five substitutions to grand jury personnel today as the panel met to consider a dozen pending cases. Several jurors were excused for sufficient reasons, and three substitutes were named. The sole case on today’s docket is the first degree murder charge against Andrew Dalnot of Lorain for the death of his wife, with a verdict expected by tomorrow or Thursday.

Elyria Man Forged Check For 62 75 At Local Store

Police released a description of a man who forged the signature of Lee Gubeno, manager of the A and P store, and cashed a 62.75 check at a Cleveland bank. The incident occurred Friday. the clerk noted the manager's name matched handwriting, leading to the cashing. The suspect was about 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing around 120 pounds, and wore a gray suit.

Bicyclist Struck by Car in Ridgeville Injures Teen

William McClelland 17 of North Ridgeville sustained a minor right toe injury after a collision with a Route 4 automobile in Ridgeville yesterday at 3 PM. He was treated at Elgin Memorial hospital and released. Police report a second incident where a man named Pelkey, 16th Street Cleveland, pleaded not guilty to a disorderly conduct charge arising from a domestic dispute with his wife.

Higgie Appointed To Police Department Authority

James F. Higgie begins service as a patrolman in the Elyria police department effective May 1 to fill a temporary vacancy created by Patrolman Robert Schwartz who is serving as a lieutenant in the army. Higgie, a resident of Elyria for 43 years, previously worked as an inspector for the plate highway department and holds a civil service grade of BB per cent. Aviation Cadet Robert A Baker Dies in California Crash

Robert A Baker aviation cadet is reported killed in a Mojave Desert crash near Hagdad California on April 9 while his plane was on a training flight. He was a 1939 Oberlin College graduate and son of Arthur Baker and Mary Hull Baker. Grandson of Rev. William H Baker and Mary Jarvis Baker.

Lieut Franklin Harris Reported Lost At Sea

Oberlin relatives learned last week that Lieut Franklin Martie Harris formerly of Oberlin was lost at sea in the recent naval battle in Darwin harbor Australia. He served on the S S Peary which was sunk on February 19 1942. He made his home with his grandmother the late Mrs Frank Hogerans and attended Oberlin schools before enlisting in 1919. He leaves a wife and three children in Washington state his mother Mrs Jeanie Rosecrans Harris of St Petersburg Florida an uncle J E Rosecrans and aunt Mrs L J Morris of Oberlin.
