Grandmother Seeks To Keep Five Grandchildren At Home
Arrangements were under way to keep Mrs. Zella Mays of 165 Northrup Street with her five grandchildren who were placed in the Oberlin Children's Home after she could not supply enough food. Police and the juvenile court learned of the case when the two oldest children, aged 7 and 10, were cited for school absence. Justice Petro dismissed the action after agreeing the Children’s Home would staff the children with the grandmother. Officials argued it would be cheaper to board the children with Mrs. Mays, noting she cared for them in a clean home, while the mother pension could not be paid to her. The home cost to care for a child was cited as 235 a month.
