Five Power Naval Treaty Final Form Approved

Heads of the five delegations to the Naval Conference approved the treaty in final form and sent it to printers. The text will be in press tomorrow for release as delegates meet at St James Palace to sign the Five Power agreement. The document, divided into five parts, covers Washington Naval Treaty modifications, technical naval limits, the three power pact with the United States Britain and Japan, submarine warfare rules, and general disarmament provisions.

Star Mothers Depart Elyria for Europe on May Trip

A Lorain county Star Mother, Mrs. Brotherton of Elyria, plans to leave Elyria May 5 at 3:33 PM via the New York Central to New York for an earlier departure to Europe. Edward Brotherton stated plans to join others from the area to journey to France, with hopes of forming bonds and coordinating future trips funded by the United States government. The Chronicle Telegram invites other Star Mothers from Elyria or Lorain County to express interest and participate.

Accidents Wipe Out More Than 15 Lives In Ohio Over Week-End

A United Press survey shows weekend fatalities across Ohio totaled over fifteen with causes including a tragic tunnel incident near Glencoe Belmont County where two sisters, Rosie and Annie Mazi, were struck by a Baltimore and Ohio train. Auto crashes killed several others across Barberton, Hudson, Bellevue, Toledo, Cincinnati, and Cleveland areas. Drownings near Painesville and park incidents, plus a boy's death from a fall near Cleveland, are noted among the losses.

Elyria Egg Hunt for Boys Yields Sweet Prizes

In Elyria on Saturday afternoon, seventy four boys hunted Easter eggs. Harry Buizbarger found the grand prize a ten pound chocolate egg in a woods in Eastern Heights. Merrill Walker and Rodney Long uncovered the second prize egg in the M C A lobby. The third prize egg, found along Howe Street, went to Ralph Seekins Donald Yost and William McClellan. All participants received eggs for effort.

120 More Street Signs Arrive

Safety Service Director John X. Eidt announced that 120 more street signs have arrived. Posts are en route and signs will be erected on main city streets not covered by last year’s installations once posts arrive.

Pope Observes Easter With Private Mass in Vatican

Pope Pius XII celebrated Easter Sunday with a late mass in the Vatican chapel. About 500 invited guests attended including relatives, the diplomatic corps, Roman nobility, and a few private citizens. All Rome churches were crowded and American tourists visited multiple churches during the morning.

New Trial Sought in $50,000 Libel Suit Against Gibson and Horvitz

William J Peer real estate dealer asks for a new trial alleging trial errors and misconduct by counsel and court after a verdict for the defendants in the libel suit against David Gibson and Samuel Horvitz. Fifteen reasons listed include evidentiary objections improper charges and omitted instructions. Further material evidence reportedly found since trial.

Lindberghs Set Transcontinental Flight Record

Col Charles A Lindbergh and his wife completed a record cross country flight in a Lockheed Sirius monoplane, landing at Roosevelt Field after 14 hours 45 minutes 32 seconds from Glendale. They covered 2530 miles with an air speed averaging 755 mph, stopping at Wichita for fuel. Mrs Lindbergh was navigator and relief pilot, drawing praise from her husband as crowds gathered to witness the historic arrival.

Histories Committee Seeks Bifria High School Artifacts

The Historical Exhibit committee seeks articles and pictures for the hundredth anniversary of Bifria High School to be celebrated in June. Population rise in Elyria First Ward to 5241

Frank Stetson, census supervisor, announced Elyria’s First Ward population on April 1 reached 5241, a 33 percent increase since 1920. If citywide growth mirrors this rate, Elyria’s total would near 27700. preliminary figures await federal census verification. Eastern Heights and Lake Avenue districts also show marked gains. Stetson expects updated ward figures soon for Lorain’s First Ward.

Stroke Suffered During Choir Service at Perris Church

A Perris Methodist Episcopal church choir member suffered a stroke while singing during morning services. Ziarr Canfield, son of Dr and Mrs D R Canfield of Perris, was employed as a telegrapher for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad at Perrysburg.

Senate Panel Votes Down Hoover Nominee for Supreme Court

Avon Lake Ditch Improvement Sought by Council Delegation

Avon Center Road ditch in Avon Lake Village faces calls for urgent repair to protect property values and safety. Mayor H F Bouse led a council delegation to request county funds for a three way cost split with the county 39 percent village 25 percent and property owners 25 percent.
