Former pharmacist to plead no contest in toddler death case
In Cleveland the defense says 40 year old Eric Cropp of Bay Village will plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter after a toddler died from a lethal salt overdose in a tumor treatment. The judge rejected misapplication arguments, leaving a plea as Cropp’s best option. He faces up to five years in prison. In Lima, Carl Humphreys III of Kenton was arrested in Florida for a November 1989 murder in what police call a mistaken identity case. He is expected to be sent back to Ohio this week. Police say Haskell Woodley was shot outside a Lima home. Detectives say witnesses helped advance the case with new cooperation.

Akron biologists study spiders to imitate silk strength
University of Akron researchers led by Todd Blackledge study dozens of spiders to uncover the secret of silk strength and elasticity. The team uses a machine to measure silk force, builds a spider family tree from DNA, and notes evolutionary shifts from sheet to orb webs and added stickiness, aiming to create synthetic spider silk for materials science.

Erosion menaces War of 1812 graves at Fort Amanda site
War of 1812 soldiers buried at Fort Amanda cemetery near Spencerville face erosion from the Auglaize River. About 75 soldiers are interred at the site, now a state park, with as many as 15 graves within 20 feet of the bank. Officials cite heavy midwinter rains and February floods as worsening the risk while funding gaps hinder protective work. The Army Corps could help with protection if justified and sound, but no action is planned yet.
