Lorain County deputies seek injunction over layoffs

Elyria Lorain County deputies union will file for an injunction next week to halt layoffs effective May 5. Twenty three of 36 road deputies were notified, part of 67 total layoffs to meet a restricted county budget. President Dave Ferry says the action aims to protect public safety and deputies on the road. Thirteen deputies will remain to cover calls for 18 townships.

Cocaine suspects swallow evidence in sting case

Lorain County police busted Daniel L. Allen and Geraldine Grantham after a $1,200 cocaine buy with a confidential informant. The pair planned to steal the money and keep the drugs, but officers arrested them when Allen allegedly swallowed the packages during a frisk at a west side improvised station, per Capt. Heroic mailman delivers aid in Elyria incident

A gusty noon wind tore a door from 77 year old Elizabeth Denn and knocked her to the ground as she reached for her mailbox. Dean, the mail carrier, rushed to assist, saying she tried to call for help but was unheard. Denn was seriously injured.
