In Rome on Good Friday Pope John Paul II presided as four Iraqis helped bear a tall wooden cross during the candlelit procession around the Colosseum. The 82 year old pontiff offered prayers for victims of hate war and terrorism and thanked God for participating in one of Christianitys holiest days. An Iraqi mother and daughter, who fled Baghdad, shouldered the cross for a few yards as they spoke to reporters.
