Elyria officials study adding sixth graders to Eastern Heights Junior High for next year. The plan would alter instruction and move sixth grade into a middle school setting amid district upheaval over school closures and staff layoffs. Mark Sutter notes it as part of the district's future.
Global Green Technologies and Solutions plans to locate its national headquarters in Lorain bringing about 20 new jobs. A $3.8 million loan from the county Port Authority will be reviewed at an upcoming meeting as finances are finalized. Mayor Krasienko calls the decision a strong start for renewable energy growth in the region.
Lorain developers push new condo projects amid a national housing slump. The Gardens of Charleston will offer one to three bedroom units from 79000 to 149000 with indoor gardens and hot tubs. A 22 month old boy from Elyria was found in the family pool on Purdue Avenue and flown to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland in critical condition. Police say Antonio Troutman wandered to the pool and climbed the deck steps before being found by his father.
