Trout stocking planned at Rowland Nature Preserve lake
About 2,500 rainbow trout will be released Friday into the 12 acre Rowland Nature Preserve lake in Elyria Township from a Castalia hatchery. ODNR officials note water temperatures up to 75 degrees, with the trout expected to die in a week and be fished out in roughly three weeks. Over spring, more than 100,000 rainbows will be delivered to 64 public lakes statewide. The daily inland lake catch limit is five, with residents paying $11 for a one day license or $19 for an annual license. The Black River Audubon Society and partners promote kestrel nesting sites, seeking volunteers and property owners to place and monitor nest boxes.
